Intel Core i9-13900KS Base Power
Intel has revealed the Core i9-13900KS base power specifications and a price. The CPU is based on the 8-core Coffee Lake series chips and comes with a base clock speed of 3.1 GHz and a turbo frequency of up to 4.9 GHz. The Core i9-13900KF (3.7 GHz) and the Core i9-13900HF (4.0 GHz) variants also have been introduced.
Chipset
Intel’s upcoming Coffee Lake CPUs feature the latest LGA 1151 socket. The chipsets of the two most powerful variants of the 13th Gen range will be compatible with the standard LGA 1151 chipset and the X299 chipset.
As expected, the Coffee Lake processors will feature the same 14 nm+ manufacturing process as its predecessors and will be manufactured using TSMC’s 12-inch wafer node.
Processors
The Intel Core i9-13900K base model will be equipped with 8 cores and 16 threads, which makes the CPU an excellent solution for demanding workloads such as content creation. For reference, the Core i7-8700K offers six cores and 12 threads and is currently priced at $300. The Core i9-9900K features 8 cores and 16 threads and costs $500. The 9-series CPUs offer fewer cores and threads but offer higher clock speeds.
Storage
Intel also introduced a new storage solution for the Coffee Lake family. This new platform will integrate a combination of M.2 2280 and PCI Express slots, which is an impressive increase in available storage. For example, the Core i9-13900KS will feature an M.2 2280 SSD and a PCI Express 4.0 x4 slot.
The M.2 2280 SSDs will use the latest NVMe PCIe technology. The M.2 PCIe SSDs of the Core i9-13900K will be based on the new Intel Optane SSD 900P and are expected to be available in 256 GB and 512 GB capacities. The PCIe slot can also be populated by an M.2 2280 SSD.
All of the Coffee Lake-S CPUs will support the DDR4-2933 memory speed and the new Z390 chipset will add support for DDR4-3667. The CPUs also feature the same LPDDR4 DRAM interface.
Display
Intel also revealed the specifications of the Core i9-13900KS. It features a TDP of 95 watts, which is lower than the 120W TDP of its predecessor, the Core i7-9700K. Intel Core i9-13900K’s TDP is also higher than the TDP of the Core i7-8700K, which is 65W.
Pricing and Availability
The Intel Core i9-13900KS is not expected to be available until the first quarter of 2018, which is a bit earlier than the launch date of the Coffee Lake-S CPUs that have similar prices.
Intel didn’t reveal any pricing details of the Core i9-13900KS.
